According to media personality Anele Mdoda, many women are changing how they define womanhood.
Speaking at the launch of First for Women’s Her and Now: Insights into the Women of South Africa 2025 report, Anele described a major cultural shift taking place.
“There’s a quiet revolution happening, and softness is the behaviour leading it.”
That statement captures what many women are feeling right now.
The report found that many women want slower, healthier, and more intentional lifestyles.
Many are redefining success beyond traditional career milestones.
Women are increasingly prioritising emotional wellbeing, boundaries, and personal peace.
While progress has been made, many women still face enormous pressure.
They continue navigating financial strain, emotional burnout, and safety concerns.
Dr. Reitumetse Mpholle explained that these contradictions continue shaping women’s lives.
“While legal and educational progress has opened doors, the realities of race, class, and gender still shape access to safety, freedom and opportunity.”
One of the strongest findings in the report is how women continue supporting one another.
The report found that 86% believe female solidarity is essential for progress.
Meanwhile, 97% say they continue showing up for other women even when it is difficult.
Anele also highlighted the importance of intentionally creating joy.
“You have got the power to make sure that you’re having a good time. Whether it’s a cappuccino at Starbucks or buying new glasses you don’t need, if it makes you happy, do it.”
Her message reflects a growing movement toward intentional joy.
Women are rewriting outdated expectations.
They are choosing lives that feel healthier, more balanced, and more authentic.
