What cover do the different car insurance policies give you?
Individual needs and circumstances call for personalised car insurance, which is why we’ve got different types of car insurance available for you to choose from. Not only are our Car Insurance policies specifically designed for women, but they also come with a host of benefits that will keep you and your loved ones safe while on the road.
Comprehensive Car Insurance is our most inclusive option. It provides cover for most situations, including theft, loss, accidental damage to your car, as well as fire and third-party damage. Our 1st for Women Comprehensive Car Insurance is an all-in-one package that will provide you with maximum protection.
This policy comes with useful added benefits too. If your car is undriveable, we’ll send a trackable tow truck to your location. We’ll cover the cost of towing, as well as any storage costs you may have after using our tow truck. We will also cover you if you lose or break your car’s keys, lock, or remote.
Third-Party, Fire and Theft Car Insurance includes cover for theft and fire damage to your car, as well as third-party damage that you may cause to another vehicle in an accident. This does not include accidental damage done to your car.
You’ll also be able to use our trackable tow truck benefit to assist in towing to the nearest repairer or storage facility. We’ll also cover the costs of this following on from your accident.
Third-Party Only Car Insurance is the option for you if you’re looking for simple cover. This is basic car insurance that will cover you if you are in an accident that was your fault. 1st for Women’s Third-Party Only Insurance includes any third-party damages and costs/expenses accrued because of a mistake you made on the road.
BetterCar Insurance is essential if you want to get the same model car, but newer, if yours is ever stolen or written off.
Normally, your car would be insured for its retail, trade, or market value. These don’t always allow for a near replacement of your vehicle, though. 1st for Women’s BetterCar is a smart choice because it replaces your car with the same model but one year newer. If a newer model isn’t available, we’ll pay you out for a car of the same value in the same category as yours. This option is available to all cars that are less than or equal to eight years old.
At 1st for Women, we care about your wellbeing. That’s why our Car Insurance plans come with added support, including Guardian Angels Lifestyle Assistance and your very own Guardian Angel on Call.
And when you download our 1st for Women App after taking out a Car Insurance policy, you’ll get access to a panic button that will alert external help during an emergency. This could include a hijacking, accident, or any other situation that makes you feel unsafe. It’s available 24/7 and can be used from anywhere in South Africa.
If you need help choosing between these different types of car insurance, call us today and we’ll gladly assist.
What types of car insurance are there for businesses?
We offer Car Insurance specifically designed for women to help them navigate their world. At 1st for Women, we recognise that you may be looking for a combination of different types of car insurance, so we’re happy to include your vehicle under a Business Insurance policy.
You can either insure your personal car for business use or take out business-specific cover, depending on what you use your car for. This goes for any of our Business Insurance policies, whether it’s 1st for Business Women (for retail store and coffee shop owners), 1st for Professional Women (lawyers, accountants, engineers), or 1st for Executive Women (women who hold executive positions at their places of work).
What is car insurance excess?
Dealing with the nitty gritty of insurance can be complicated. That’s why we’re upfront about payments and claims, because caring about your wellbeing includes looking after your financial health.
A car insurance excess is an amount payable by you in the event of a loss and is the uninsured portion of your loss. Insurance companies put excesses in place in order to prevent too many minor or fraudulent claims from being submitted. This helps to keep premiums as low as possible for everyone, including you.
In the event of a car accident claim, you’ll need to pay an excess, regardless of who was at fault for the accident. These are payable whenever a claim is submitted and is the first payment in respect of your claim.
Make sure you always read your specific policy document to understand the specific excess payments which may be applicable to you. Also be aware that you might pay more than one excess. For example, if you’re the regular driver on your policy but your child was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident, you will likely pay another excess in addition to the standard one. If the accident occurred between 10 pm and 5 am, another excess could also be added.
At 1st for Women, we do our best to recover your excess if an accident was someone else’s fault. We know you’d rather spend your money on more important things, like something for you or your loved ones. We offer this service at no extra charge.
In order to reduce your excess, you could increase your monthly premium and limit how many people other than the regular driver get behind the wheel of your insured car.
Why are some cars more expensive to insure than others?
It’s true that different car models have different insurance costs. We recognise that this could influence the types of car insurance you may consider.
Some factors we consider when calculating your premiums include your age and your driving and accident history, as well as that of the regular driver on your policy.
We also look at the specific vehicle you’re insuring when calculating your premium. Usually, if a car model is expensive to buy, it will be expensive to insure because of the costs to repair or replace it. Even the colour of the car makes a difference. Special edition or unusual colours, like those with a pearlescent sheen to them, are harder to mix and match during repairs. This makes insuring cars with them more expensive.
We also consider the theft risk of your car – is it a higher risk model and is it parked in an unsecure area?
Does cover include towing and roadside assistance?
We will never leave you vulnerable after you’ve gone through an accident or emergency. During such a stressful time, it can be hard to think straight. That’s why our range of benefits does all the necessary tasks and admin for you, so you don’t have to worry about them.
Our Car Insurance includes Guardian Angels Lifestyle Assistance which comes standard with roadside and accident assistance, as well as Guardian Angel on Call available through the 1st for Women App.
Our Roadside Assist includes help if your car has a breakdown, a flat battery, a burst tyre, a dry fuel tank, or you lock your keys in your car.
Our Accident Assist benefit watches out for you and your passengers when you’re on the road. It includes a mobile crash detector which alerts us if you’re in a severe accident, emergency medical assistance, a tow truck dispatched to your location, a lift to where you need to go following an accident, a Guardian Angel to wait with you until help arrives, and immediate notification to our claims team regarding your accident.
