What types of car insurance are there for businesses?

We offer Car Insurance specifically designed for women to help them navigate their world. At 1st for Women, we recognise that you may be looking for a combination of different types of car insurance, so we’re happy to include your vehicle under a Business Insurance policy.

You can either insure your personal car for business use or take out business-specific cover, depending on what you use your car for. This goes for any of our Business Insurance policies, whether it’s 1st for Business Women (for retail store and coffee shop owners), 1st for Professional Women (lawyers, accountants, engineers), or 1st for Executive Women (women who hold executive positions at their places of work).

What is car insurance excess?

Dealing with the nitty-gritty of insurance can be complicated. That’s why we’re upfront about payments and claims so you know exactly what you’re in for at any given time.

A car insurance excess is an amount payable by you in the event of a claim. Insurance companies put excesses in place in order to prevent too many minor or fraudulent claims from being submitted. This helps to keep premiums as low as possible for everyone, including you.

In the event of a car accident claim, you’ll need to pay an excess, regardless of who was at fault for the accident. This is payable whenever a claim is submitted and is the first payment in respect of your claim.

Make sure you always read your policy documents carefully to understand the specific excess payments which may be applicable to you. Also be aware that you might pay more than one excess. For example, if you’re the regular driver on your policy but your child was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident, you will likely pay another excess in addition to the standard one.

At 1st for Women, we do our best to recover your excess if an accident was someone else’s fault. We offer this service at no extra charge.

In order to reduce your excess, you could increase your monthly premium and limit how many people other than the regular driver get behind the wheel of your insured car.

Why are some cars more expensive to insure than others?

Where you live affects your car insurance premiums. When a car insurance premium calculator works out the cost of your cover per month, it takes a number of factors into consideration. Insurance providers like 1st for Women look at things like the average number of claims per person in your area, the crime rate, and the general driving behaviour of those around you and how likely they are to be insured.

Besides these subjective factors, there are a few external influences that will affect how much you pay for car insurance. For example, population density and weather conditions will play a role in determining how likely you are to claim. In a big city with thousands of vehicles on the road and complicated intersections, fender benders are almost a certainty. And a car insurance calculator in South Africa could generate a higher quote for drivers in Johannesburg than those in Cape Town because Gauteng’s harsh winter hailstorms can leave cars in need of repair.

As where you live affects your car insurance premiums, moving will certainly have an impact on how much your cover costs. An online car insurance calculator can provide an accurate car insurance quote that takes into account all of the factors that determine your premium.
