Protect your assets with Buildings Insurance.

A buildings insurance policy is the best way to ensure that you can keep that home you just invested your life savings in looking like a million rand. Or more realistically, like 1.2 million rand. Unlike a Home Contents Insurance policy, a Buildings Insurance policy is designed to protect the external structure of you home against theft and damage, as opposed to the bits and bobs that you’ve subsequently filled it with.

What will a Buildings Insurance Policy protect me against?

Your buildings insurance will cover you in the event of the following:

  • Fire, lightning, explosion, and/or earthquake
  • The bursting of water pipes
  • Storms and floods (but not when the loss or damage is to your gates, fences or retaining walls)
  • Impact with your home and outbuildings by animals, vehicles and falling trees (but not while they are being felled)
  • Aircraft or things dropped from them
  • Malicious or intentional damage, (but not if your home is unoccupied for more than 60 days in a year).
  • Break-in or theft, (but if your home or a part of it is rented, then only if we can see the damage caused by the break-in)
  • Subsidence of land.

What parts of the property will my Buildings Insurance cover?

Obviously the structure of your home will be covered in the event of any loss or damage caused by the events listed above, but your building’s insurance covers more than just the building you live in.

Your private home, garages, outbuildings, swimming pool (but not borehole and swimming pool equipment), walls, gates, fences, tennis court and the fixtures and fittings at the address on the schedule will all be covered under a buildings insurance policy.

Avoid landing in hot water when your geyser breaks...

As is standard, your geyser is not covered in your Buildings Insurance Policy, unless you state that you want additional coverage for it when taking out the policy. You can also amend your policy at any time to include geyser cover if you already have a buildings insurance policy.
