Ying-Shan is six-years-old and lives in Boksburg.

She recently was awarded the honour of most inspiring junior performer at the National Eisteddfod Academy Awards and last year, was named the top junior instrumentalist in the five to 15-year-old age group at the South African Championships for Performing Arts.

Ying-Shan was born blind and showed an interest in sound at an early age. She started taking piano lessons in October 2007.

She says that she likes music. The sound is painting a picture for her. It makes her happy.
